A Richmond American ENERGY STAR® home can save you hundreds per year in estimated annual energy costs!*

The HERS index (Home Energy Rating System) measures a home's energy performance. The smaller the HERS number, the more efficient the home. This index gauges energy efficency. Each ENERGY STAR home has a different rating so check with a Sales Center for estimated annual energy savings.

An ENERGY STAR qualified home will be…

At least 15% more energy efficient
than typical new homes
&
up to 50% more energy efficient
than typical resale homes

Keeping our HERS ratings low with the help of standard ENERGY STAR features can save you hundreds per year!

Typical new homes rate 100 on the HERS scale. Richmond American's ENERGY STAR homes perform better to keep your energy costs down.

HOW WE DO IT

Conserving energy and saving you money starts with adding ENERGY STAR features, which may include:

1. Efficient duct system
Sealed ducts help deliver conditioned air more effectively and permit the heating and cooling system to operate with less effort.

2. Sealed home "envelope"
The building envelope separates the home's indoor environment from the outdoor environment. Sealing this envelope helps to reduce drafts, dust and pollen from exterior sources.

3. Properly sized, efficient HVAC equipment
Equipment selected based upon ENERGY STAR qualifications helps to reduce energy consumption and better regulate indoor temperature and humidity variations.

4. Effective insulation
Properly installed insulation helps to reduce energy consumption, improve overall comfort and minimize indoor temperature variability.

5. Low-e windows
Windows help to qualify the home for ENERGY STAR through the use of one or more advanced technologies, such as low-emissivity (low-e) coatings.

WHY WE DO IT

Superior quality craftsmanship and value have always been important to us. The only thing that's changed in our 40 years in homebuilding is the technology. We're always looking for new ways to build a better home. Energy efficiency has become a large part that initiative. But the real story encompasses our commitment to excellence at every stage of construction.

*The HERS® Index is a registered trademark of the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). This disclosure refers to the “Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Systems Standards” as promulgated and maintained by RESNET. Certain capitalized terms used herein have the meaning ascribed to them in the Standards. The HERS Index is a numerical value that represents the relative energy use of a Rated Home as compared with the energy use of the Reference Home. A Reference Home is a hypothetical typical new home configured in accordance with the specifications set forth in the National Home Energy Rating Technical Guidelines for the purpose of calculating rating scores and has an Index value of 100. The lower a home's HERS Index, the more energy efficient it is in comparison to the Reference Home. Each one-point decrease in the HERS Index corresponds to a 1% reduction in energy consumption compared to the Reference Home. The typical resale home HERS Index of 130 is a U.S. Department of Energy rating per its EnergySmart Home ScaleSM, and represents the average energy performance of existing housing. The HERS Index shown is a Projected Rating based on the relevant standard home plan using RESNET-approved software and is not a Confirmed Rating. The HERS Index for a Confirmed Rating will be determined by an independent RESNET-certified Home Energy Rater based on data gathered from inspections and, if required, testing, of a home as featured, optioned, located, oriented and/or built. Inspections and testing performed in accordance with the Standards are not technically exhaustive and are not intended to be a confirmation of compliance with regulatory requirements. The Estimated Annual Energy Cost Savings reported shows the positive difference between estimated annual energy costs for the relevant standard home plan as Projected, as compared with the Reference Home for same. The Estimated Energy Costs for the relevant standard home plan as Projected are reported as a monthly average using prescribed operating condition assumptions; the heating, cooling, water heating, lighting and appliances included as standard with the relevant home plan; and the average local energy utility rates, fees and charges available at the time the report was prepared. Both the cost savings and energy costs are prepared by an independent RESNET-certified Home Energy Rater using RESNET-approved software for analyses and reporting. Actual energy costs and savings will depend on factors that include but are not limited to rates, fees and charges of local energy utility companies, level of commitment to saving energy, actual utility consumption, household size, preferences and daily activities, home maintenance practices and climatic conditions. Gas utilities may not be available in some communities or may not be offered on some appliances and estimated energy costs will reflect electric utilities, in whole, or in part, in those communities. Buyers should not rely solely on the HERS Index, the Estimated Annual Energy Cost Savings and the estimated monthly energy costs shown in making any decision. Richmond American Homes cannot guarantee utility usage or energy costs or savings and cannot guarantee that any home will have a HERS Index Confirmed Rating equal to or lower than that the Projected Rating. Receiving a HERS number is not itself a guarantee of any home's qualification under the ENERGY STAR® Qualified New Homes Program. Information about the HERS Index, HERS Standards and Code of Ethics can be found on RESNET's website at http://www.resnet.us.
Homes built by SDC Homes/Richmond American Homes of Washington, Inc. and certain other homes sold by Richmond American Homes companies are not ENERGY STAR® compliant.
