Outdoor recreation is at the center of any thriving community. Fredericksburg, Virginia is no exception. Residents can enjoy a variety of parks and trails across the city. One place we discovered was Canal Path/Heritage Trail, which starts near the intersection of Princess Anne and Ford, along the Rappahannock Canal. This 1.8-mile trail is the perfect way to burn off that morning scone. Pack a picnic and take in the great outdoors.

Though they only sell three flavors (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry), this roadside ice cream stand hand scoops some of the best soft serve ice cream for miles around. Be careful, you may become a regular.
