And when the dust settles, you\u2019ll be that much closer to closing on your dream home.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve mapped out three ways to jumpstart your house hunt online. All pajama friendly!<\/p>\n<h2>Scope out local neighborhoods<\/h2>\n<p>You may already have potential neighborhoods narrowed down to a few prospects, but if you\u2019re more up in the air or are relocating from out of state, you may want to invest in a subscription to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NeighborhoodScout.com<\/a>. This comprehensive website lets you enter any address and discover neighborhood demographics, crime, schools, average home values, employment trends and more. If you don\u2019t want to shell out the funds, here are some other websites to use when evaluating neighborhoods:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schools<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatschools.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greatschools.org<\/a> is the place to go for school ratings, test scores and reviews. You can find out if the school is progressing, the demographic information about the student population, how many years of experience the staff has, and so much more!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crime<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are several sites available for learning about crime in your area. First, make a stop at <a href=\"https:\/\/spotcrime.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SpotCrime.com<\/a>, where you can view recent crimes and arrests on a map view.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lifestyle<br \/>\n<\/strong>It\u2019s important to look at neighborhood stats, but don\u2019t take for granted something much more subjective\u2014livability! Your needs will vary by your lifestyle preferences. Is walkability important to you? Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkscore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WalkingScore.com<\/a>. Enter an address and this site will tell you how walkable and bikeable the neighborhood is and what kind of transit options are available. To scope out entertainment, hit up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TripAdvisor.com<\/a>. You don\u2019t have to be on vacation to use this site! Type in your city, select <strong>Restaurants <\/strong>or <strong>Things to do<\/strong> and choose <strong>View Map<\/strong> to navigate to the neighborhood you\u2019re researching. From there, you\u2019ll get reviews of parks and dining options!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Explore floor plan choices<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve narrowed your search to a couple of neighborhoods, it\u2019s time to think about the actual home you\u2019ll be living in. First, it helps to make a wish list of must-haves for your new home. Either start with a blank piece of paper, a blank document on your computer, or download our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.richmondamerican.com\/campaigns\/10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ultimate Moving Pack<\/a>, which contains a house hunting wish list and other helpful worksheets. If you add too many bells and whistles to your search in the beginning (fireplace, butler\u2019s pantry, walk-in shower), you may miss out on a home that meets all of your needs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Once you have your basic wish list stats down, we recommend going straight to the builder sites if you\u2019re planning to buy a brand-new home (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.richmondamerican.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here\u2019s ours<\/a>). There you\u2019ll be able to find communities in your neighborhood and explore the floor plans available at each location.
