If house hunting is on the docket for you in 2019, this is the place to be. While you\u2019re sure to notice the number of bedrooms and the curb appeal of any home, you may find yourself thinking back on your tours with unanswered questions. It\u2019s not uncommon to ask yourself later \u201cDid that home have a linen closet?\u201d or \u201cWas there a spot for a BBQ grill?\u201d Walking away with questions is a common problem and that\u2019s why we\u2019re outlining some top features to keep top of mind when looking for a new home.<\/p>\n<h3>1.\u00a0\u00a0 Outdoor spaces<\/h3>\n<p>When it comes to shopping for a new home, the indoor spaces usually take priority. After all, that\u2019s where you\u2019ll spend the most time. But don\u2019t forget to take a hard look outdoors, especially in the colder months when it may not feel necessary. Top questions you may want to consider include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the outdoor space look manageable maintenance-wise?<\/li>\n<li>Is there a spot for a garden?<\/li>\n<li>Is the space conducive to pets and children?<\/li>\n<li>How can I entertain in this space?<\/li>\n<li>What outdoor furniture will I need to take advantage of this space?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a02.\u00a0\u00a0 Office\/study spaces<\/h3>\n<p>Another overlooked or misunderstood aspect of the home search is the office space. Many times people take the number of bedrooms they need and then add one to use as an office. For example:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1 bedroom = parents<br \/>\n1 bedroom = daughter<br \/>\n1 bedroom = son<br \/>\n1 bedroom = office<br \/>\n<strong>Total\u20264 bedrooms!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, when you\u2019re searching online, overstating the bedroom minimum to include an office may eliminate homes that meet your needs. Many of our homes feature studies, tech centers, lofts and finished basements that could work well as an office. If you require a dedicated office, be flexible on the bedroom count and take note of niches and spaces as you tour with that function in mind.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0\u00a0 Storage spaces<\/h3>\n<p>Another tip for house touring\u2026open every door! While you may be laser-focused on the size and function of the rooms in your potential new home, don\u2019t forget to assess the storage areas. Linen closets, bedroom closets, garage space, pantries and the like are notoriously overlooked.
