Desert\nadventures <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dotted with eye-catching rock\nformations and iconic canyons, Las Vegas\u2019 Southwest Valley offers hiking,\nbiking, rafting and camping opportunities galore. Rock climbers can enjoy sought-after\nsites, including the challenging limestone caves at Mount Charleston.\nAdrenaline-pumping river rafting is also popular, with plenty of exciting\nroutes available along the Colorado River. Cyclists aren\u2019t left out of the fun,\nwith access to Blue\nDiamond, Bootleg Canyon and Cowboy Trails networks that crisscross the\nlandscape and offer a range of terrain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Red Rock Canyon<\/a> <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located\nabout 15 miles from the Strip, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area showcases\ndesert landscapes scattered with red-hued rock formations. A 13-mile loop leads\nvisitors to the most impressive views of the park, boasting scenery so beautiful\nit\u2019s been featured as a backdrop in numerous films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valley of Fire<\/a> <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This 42,000-acre park is approximately\nan hour from the Strip. Its eyebrow-raising name doesn\u2019t come from soaring\ntemperatures, but from the Aztec Sandstone formations in the park, which\ndevelop a fiery glow when lit by the sun. The Valley of Fire hosts more than\n300,000 visitors each year, many of whom are attracted by 2,000-year-old\npetroglyphs left by Anasazi Pueblo farmers throughout the park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lake Mead<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not far from Red Rock Canyon, the Lake\nMead National Recreation Area offers 1.5 million acres of incredible scenery,\nspanning mountains, valleys and two brilliant blue lakes. This serene park was\nfirst designated a National Recreation Area in 1964, and it now features nine wilderness\nareas that are home to Joshua trees, caves, hot springs and canyons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you like water recreation, the sandy shorelines of Big Bend of Colorado<\/a> are also worth a look! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Mountain Ranch<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spring Mountain Ranch was previously\nused as a working ranch and retreat by eccentric owners, including Howard\nHughes. Today, it\u2019s home to an 1860s blacksmith shop and a sandstone cabin, as\nwell as trails and shaded picnic spots, making it a popular family destination.\nThe park also offers \u201cliving history programs\u201d during the spring and fall, with\ncostumed re-enactments of the lives of early settlers and Las Vegas pioneers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
