Choosing a moving company should be no different! Following are some quick tips for hiring a competitively priced, reputable mover near you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get several recommendations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Word of mouth is a great way to find an affordable, dependable moving company\u2014especially if the recommendations come from people you know and trust. Reach out to your network of friends, relatives, coworkers\u2014even your real estate agent\u2014for names of local movers with a proven track record of customer satisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Read online reviews<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have a handful of referrals for local moving companies, search the web for additional feedback on these businesses. In addition to visiting social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Better Business Bureau<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/protect-your-move\/consumer-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">these consumer affairs agencies<\/a>. If a mover has a large number of poor reviews or unresolved complaints, it\u2019s probably best to move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ask for references<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most businesses like to brag about a job well done\u2014it\u2019s just good advertising! So don\u2019t be afraid to ask potential moversfor the names and contact information of past customers. If the moving company doesn\u2019t freely supply you with multiple references, it could indicate inexperience or\u2014even worse\u2014 poor performance. This could be a sign that perhaps you should consider a different mover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Check licensing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before hiring a moving company, verify that it has proper licensing. Local movers are regulated by\u2014and should be licensed in\u2014the state in which they operate. Interstate moving companies, on the other hand, should be licensed by the Department of Transportation. If you\u2019re moving out of state, check to make sure the company has a valid <a href=\"https:\/\/safer.fmcsa.dot.gov\/CompanySnapshot.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USDOT number<\/a> and carries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/registration\/insurance-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sufficient insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Compare prices<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to get written, binding in-home estimates from several movers. Better yet, ask them for binding not-to-exceed estimates, which guarantee the cost of your move will not surpass their quoted price.
