Shelly and Morris were looking to move to sunny Arizona, where Morris is based for work and Shelly could begin appreciating her recent retirement. They had visited Marana before and were intrigued by the RV garages they had seen, so they began researching suitable homebuilders in the area. After exploring several options, they decided to purchase a Richmond American home with a 3-car garage, which turned out to be ideal for their needs.

Because Shelly and Morris plan to ease into retirement, they hoped to find a comfortable home with plentiful space for family visits. They chose the Peridot floor plan, due to its manageable size, smartly planned entry space, convenient indoor laundry, generous kitchen, and broad backyard with room to install a pool. “Everything just flowed when we walked in,” Shelly said.
Since settling in, Shelly’s favorite parts of the home are the tranquil study and the spacious great room with sliding doors to the backyard, where Shelly enjoys relaxing outside on cooler mornings.

Shelly mentioned that our Superintendent, Rob, made the homebuying journey less stressful by being honest about the building process and providing numerous updates throughout, doing well to stick to the construction timeline. Our Home Care Specialist, Sandy, fixed small issues with the home right away. Shelly also commented that working with Jason at American Home Insurance Agency, Inc. and the team at HomeAmerican Mortgage Corporation made for a seamless experience. She said that the communication was great, and the response rate was excellent, which made her feel at ease and satisfied with the entire process.
When asked if Shelly would recommend Richmond American Homes to family and friends, she said that she already has. After Shelly’s recommendation, her son researched extensively about build quality in the area and ultimately bought a Richmond American home right across the street from Shelly and Morris! So far, their family has celebrated several holidays together between their two homes.
In addition to Shelly and Morris’s tight-knit family, they also have three beautiful huskies. An open, dog-friendly floor plan was high on their wish list when choosing a home, and the Peridot provides exactly that. We hope the pups are settled in and enjoying their new space. Though, Shelly did mention that she’ll have to keep an eye on them in the backyard; like many huskies, they are skilled escape artists!

After owning three new-build homes, Shelly’s advice to first time homebuyers is to be open minded. Shelly suggests approaching the homebuying process with flexibility, instead of holding onto a rigid list of must-haves that could lead to disappointment. She elaborated, saying that older homes have charm, but it takes time for them to become that way. According to Shelly, turning a house into a home is a journey, whether it is your first home or your last.
Congratulations, Shelly and Morris! We wish you, your son, and your huskies many wonderful years in your new homes.
