Holiday Relaxation Tips

The holiday season can bring out the best in us. But it can also bring out the stress in us. Last-minute shopping, seasonal errands and a calendar overflowing with commitments… It’s no wonder so many people feel overwhelmed during this time of year!

Fortunately, there are some simple things you can do when the holidays have you feeling frazzled. Restore your comfort and joy this season with the following relaxation tips:

  • Take some calming breaths.
Breathe in through your nose, allowing the air to fill your lungs. Hold your breath for a few seconds and then slowly release it through your mouth. Repeat as needed.
  • Listen to tranquil tunes.
Music has been proven to help reduce stress, so play some slow, soothing songs the next time you’re feeling tense. Or, crank up your favorite holiday classics and sing along at the top of your lungs, if you prefer!
  • Enjoy a warm bath.
Soaking in the tub is another great way to unwind this holiday season. Add a few drops of citrus essential oil for some calming aromatherapy.
  • Get some exercise.
You may feel like you’re too busy to exercise, but physical activity can help lift your mood and give you the energy you need to tackle your holiday to-do list. Take a short walk, practice yoga or hop on your bike!
  • Give back.
Although it’s not a relaxation technique, per se, volunteering at a local charity organization—especially during the holidays—will help boost your mood and give you a little perspective. After all, it’s tough to feel stressed when you’re making spirits bright.
