Veteran Single Mom Finds Dream Home Just in Time for the Holidays

After years of living in an apartment, veteran and single mom Delaina hoped to find a more spacious and permanent living situation for herself and her two children, a baby girl and an eight-year-old son with special needs. She searched for a year and a half, exploring her options and seeking the best price, location, and floor plan that would suit her family’s unique circumstances.

Delaina’s search came to an end when she met our sales associate, Sarah, at Cherry Knolls. Together they explored the Morello floor plan, which Delaina loved right away for its open layout. As a parent, she appreciates being able to keep an eye on her children from different areas of the home. The Morello plan also offers a primary suite adjacent to the stairs, which is ideal for Delaina to be able to watch over her children and help them from floor to floor, when needed.

Another unique feature of the Sacramento home that delighted Delaina is a small side yard, a perfect outdoor spot for a furry friend. Having spent years in an apartment where pets weren’t allowed, Delaina was thrilled by the opportunity to finally welcome a service dog, which she plans to adopt for herself and her son. As a veteran with disabilities, having a service dog would offer not only practical assistance but also emotional support, making this addition to their home a truly special one.

Delaina observed that closing on her home suddenly made the journey feel real. Buying a home can be stressful, especially for a single mom, but she knew that finally being handed the keys to her new home would make it all worth it. Sarah continued to work alongside Delaina to help make the sales process as smooth as possible. Delaina took her time comparing mortgage lenders, and ultimately decided to go with HomeAmerican Mortgage, where she found not only the best rates but a team that was as committed to her success as she was. “Everyone was supportive and went above and beyond,” Delaina said.

When asked if Delaina would recommend Richmond American Homes to family and friends, she said she already has recommended it to many people and talks nonstop about how much she loves her home. She has brought several friends and family members to tour available homes. “I’m completely sold on Richmond,” she added with confidence.

Delaina’s advice to first-time homebuyers is to prepare as much as possible in advance. She wishes that she had been a bit more prepared for some of the unexpected financial and paperwork hurdles that popped up along the homebuying journey. Another piece of advice Delaina offered was to be kind to the homebuilding team. In her opinion, being understanding and polite can only lead to a better homebuying experience. It was clear that the feeling was mutual. Our team members returned Delaina’s enthusiasm, calling her “amazing” to work with.

Now that Delaina is settling into her new home with her beautiful family, we hope that she’s doing some of the things she was looking forward to the most after moving in: decorating the space, filling it with books, and spending time with family and friends, whom she looks forward to inviting over as much as possible.

Congratulations, Delaina! We are honored to share your homebuying story and wish you and your family many happy years in your new home!
