Parks aplenty can also be found in Mesquite, with Desert Rose Park, Hafen Park and Hillside Arboretum all open to the public. Originally named after the mesquite timber which could be found near the original town site, the current incarnation of the city boasts abundant foliage for a desert community, allowing for residents to enjoy scenic strolls throughout its many trails.

Museums that can be found in Mesquite include the Lost City Museum, which boasts one of the most complete collections of artifacts from Puebloan culture in the Southwest, and the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum, which features more modern exhibits such as early 20th century gaming machines and fashion pieces. Several major highways pass through northeastern Clark County, including I-11, I-15, I-215 and I-515. In addition to Vegas, major cities that are less than a six-hour drive from Mesquite include Phoenix, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Public transit service throughout Clark County is provided by RTC Transit, which can be used for convenient day trips to Sin City. The single-runway Mesquite Airport is operated by city officials while the major Harry Reid International Airport in Paradise, Nevada is owned by the Clark County Commission and operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation.

Several casinos can be found in Mesquite, including the Virgin River Casino, CasaBlanca, Eureka, and Stateline Casino and Motel. Rising Star Sports Ranch, a non-gaming hotel and sports facility, also calls the city home, as does the popular SkyDome Lounge, which regularly features live musical acts. With Las Vegas only 80 miles down the road, world-class entertainment galore is also just a short drive away.
Education
Virgin Valley High School, Charles A. Hughes Middle School and Virgin Valley Elementary are all in Mesquite, while Joseph L. Bowler Elementary is located in nearby Bunkerville. All four schools are part of the Clark County School District, which serves over 320,000 students and is among the largest districts in the country. Postsecondary institutions in Clark County include Nevada State College, the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Shopping & Dining
The culinary options available to Mesquitians are vast and varied. High-end steakhouses, all-you-can-eat buffets and authentic foreign fare are among the dining options for residents of this charming city, with numerous wineries, breweries and distilleries also nearby. Military
Four military bases are located in Nevada—two Air Force, one Army and one Navy. Nellis AFB is a multi-functional base and among the most complete military bases in the country while Creech AFB has been one of the country’s most important military installations in recent years. Hawthorne Army Depot Base and NAS Fallon Navy Base round out the state’s armed service complexes.
