Buying a Home? Community Amenities Matter!

From price to number of bedrooms and square footage, there are many factors that influence the search for a new home. One of the most important considerations, though, only begins after the property line ends: community amenities.

When you’re house hunting, keep an eye out for neighborhoods with on-site schools, pools, fitness centers or easy access to commuter routes. They’ll likely enrich your lifestyle, and at the very least add a level of convenience to your daily routine. We’ve highlighted some popular amenities and some Richmond American communities where you can find them: with so many incredible choices, you’re sure to discover one that inspires you.

Access to business hubs and shopping destinations

Resort-style amenities are enticing, but many homebuyers find that close proximity to shopping, dining and common commuter routes is equally important—if not more so—when choosing a new neighborhood. Among other enticing amenities, Reed’s Crossing in Hillsboro, Oregon, will feature its own Town Center, boasting a variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment options. At Haskins Station in Arvada, Colorado, residents enjoy easy access to major highways, as well as close proximity to public transportation.

Fitness centers, sports facilities and pools

Is staying active one of your priorities? Keep an eye out for a community with a fitness center or a pool, or facilities such as tennis courts, baseball fields and golf courses. For example, Riverwalk At Rancho Del Lago in Vail, Arizona, boasts a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, and our Crystal Valley masterplan communities in Denver, Colorado, feature a fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and group classes. Many of our communities nationwide have private pools, like Elm Creek at Silverleaf in St. Augustine, Florida.

Parks, trails and open space

If outdoor activities are important to you, look for communities that offer green space, hiking and biking trails, on-site playgrounds and parks. Our Summerlin neighborhoods in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcase more than 150 miles of trails, as well as an impressive network of parks and paseos. Residents at Hope Springs, located in Star, Idaho, will also enjoy community gardens, multiple pocket parks, as well as pleasant walking paths along a meadering creek.

Schools

Well-rated school districts are a must for many homebuyers. To make it easier on you, some communities boast their own schools, like our neighborhoods at Audie Murphy Ranch in Menifee, California, which have an on-site elementary school. Anderson Farms community in Grantsville, Utah, is conveniently located less than a mile from an elementary school and less than 2 miles from the middle school and high school.

Rec centers and community activities

Getting to know your neighbors can make your community feel even more like home. A neighborhood with a central gathering spot or planned social events and activities is perfect for cultivating new friendships. At Seasons at Monarch within the Mariposa masterplan in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, you’ll find a central community center, pools, fitness facilities, sports courts and more. The Preserve masterplan in Chino, California, is another great pick for meeting new people—it offers multiple clubhouses, pools, parks, trails and more!

Community matters

At Richmond American, we pride ourselves on inspired design and quality construction, but we also recognize that a new home is about so much more than the house itself. It’s about finding a community that fits your lifestyle, whether it’s in the heart of the city or a more rural location, whether it has a clubhouse and a pool or miles of trails and abundant open space. It’s about matching you with a location that you love, where you can feel right at home.
